Club Overview

The Old Haleians' Hockey Club Inc (HHC), founded in 1905 has over 520 registered playing members, competing in 40 teams in official Hockey WA (HWA) competitions from U/9 to O/60.

Additionally the club also runs a 'Minkey' (5-7yrs) introductory development programme that has attracted 100 new players to Hockey and the club from the local area.

In summer the club hosts its own extremely popular competitions, catering for 44 Teams across all age and ability levels from October to March.

This year alone the club has hosted several international tournaments and hosts overseas teams using Hale as their training base as preparation for tournaments.

In all the club and the facilities are enjoyed by over 50,000 people per annum - the club operates on less than 330 days per year.

Club History

Hale Hockey Club is one of the oldest clubs in Perth. The club formed in 1905 after a group of Old Boys from Hale School, driven by a passion for playing hockey, decided not to stop competing in the local league after leaving school.

The Old Haleians' Hockey Club (as it was initially named), was first located in West Perth, but never owned a home ground. Players trained at several fields across the city until the club made Langley Park its base for training and matches. This was soon deemed unsatisfactory as one of the longest serving members, Bill Evans points out, "it was like playing on a cow paddock, especially when it rained."

Hale's current clubrooms on Williamstown Road in Doubleview were opened in association with Hale School in 1990, by former principal Dr Ken Tregonning. Celebrating its centenary in 2005, Hale now has more than 40 men's, women's, veterans and junior teams and boasts one of WA's best wet turfs - and arguably the best grass fields around.

Born from Hale School, the club is no longer a men's-only club. Women started playing at Hale in 1991 when a group of mums decided to enter a team in the competition rather than just watch their sons. Fittingly Hale fielded its first 1st Division side in the Centenary year 2005.

The club is currently home to several Senior and Junior Australian Internationals and is currently well placed with our best ever Men's team challenging strongly for the Classic League title.
In addition the club also boasts over 20 State Junior and Veteran players.

Over the years things have changed at Hale, but the Club will always continue the traditions of providing strong leadership, sportsmanship, great atmosphere and quality hockey.
