We were deeply saddened to hear of the death of Tom Hoar at the weekend.
Tom was well known to a huge number of people within the Hale community but to those of you not fortunate enough to have made his acquaintance: he was a long time teacher, Deputy Head and Boarding Housemaster at the School from 1948-1985. He touched the lives of very many people, not just the hundreds of students he nurtured through maths classes! Following retirement from teaching, Tom became the Honorary Secretary of the OHA until 1995 and continued his connection with the School for many more years after that.
Tom suffered dementia more recently and died on Sunday 30 April following a short period of hospitalisation.
He was one of life’s true gentlemen – and will be sadly missed by many.
The School will be holding a memorial service to celebrate the life of Tom Hoar in the coming weeks. Details will be circulated in due course.
