Sam McEntee (2005-09) was Captain of Athletics in 2009. He was awarded Symbols, Colours and Honours for Athletics, won the Dr Tregonning Trophy for athletics in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and also the HP Turnbull Trophy in 2008 for, you guessed it, athletics. So to hear that he has made this year’s Olympic Athletics team will come as no surprise.

Sam has made the team after running a 5km qualifying time in the States recently. He won the Nationals here prior, but needed a qualifying time for a seat on the plane - he did that by 5 seconds and smashed his PB by 13 seconds in the process! It has been a long time between drinks for athletics representation at Olympic level: Don Keane (1944-47) was the last Old Haleian to represent Australia in track and field - in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne!

We wish Sam all the very best of luck.
